The Project Manager – R&D applies a proven yet developing project management skill set to successfully manage a broad range of new product development projects for the Weber-Stephen business.

Ideal candidates have a solid mechanical or industrial engineering background with relevant industry experience in the design of new products and between three to five years of experience managing projects as either a project engineer or project manager.

They are also highly organized and self-motivated individuals with the ability to apply critical thinking skills to solve complex problems. They have solid interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage a cross-functional team with competing priorities towards common project goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned

  • Supports all project management activities for the assigned programs.
  • Supports the creation of project definition and execution of all project phases in accordance with the defined phase gate process.
  • Provides direction to cross functional teams to insure all activities are completed as needed.
  • Facilitates cross functional team meetings to insure adherence to program objective, resolve issues and make decisions.
  • Clearly identifies and communicates risks and mitigation plans.
  • Insures that all project documentation is in place as required to insure that product specifications and requirements are clear to the teams.
  • Identifies needed resources and manages prioritization with leadership to insure needs are met.
  • Prepares and presents updates for monthly reviews and gate meetings.

Education and/or Experience                                                    

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience
  • Degreed engineer, BSME, BSEE, or BSIE preferred
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams through the design, development, and implementation of product development projects preferred
  • Experience in the design and manufacturing of injection molded, cast, and / or sheet metal fabrications is preferred. Competence in at least one technical area is required

Language Skills                                          

  • English fluency is required; other language skills are desirable but not required.

Mathematical Skills                                             

  • Above average math skills are required, consistent with engineering training. Statistics knowledge is expected.

Reasoning Ability                                                  

  • Above average problem solving and decision making skills are required. Must be capable of articulating the decision process and leading others through clear problem solving exercises.

Computer Skills                                                     

  • MS office including MS project and PowerPoint is needed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • None required. Professional organization affiliation is a benefit.  Project management certification is a strong plus.
